How it all started

The idea of forming a club was first mooted when Zodwa & Ross met with John & Christine at the Samaritans race in Weymouth in early September 2008. They had seen so many people running on the seafront, and up and down the hills mostly as individuals and at all times of the day. They realised there was an unmet need for a running group or club within the Isle of Purbeck.

With this in mind they contacted Roger and met two weeks later. Then on one wet Saturday Zodwa & Ross ‘leafleted’ 50 sites on The Isle of Purbeck, placed posters and contacted the Echo and the Advertiser.

The response was better than could ever have been hoped for. An “Open Meeting” in November 2008 was well attended. The following Sunday Purbeck Runners “Inaugural Run” took place with 50 runners taking part.

The Club has rapidly grown since and celebrated it’s second birthday in November 2010!
