Purbeck Runners Donation to Local Dementia Charity

The Purbeck Runners have donated an amazing £2,165 to the local Swanage Area Dementia Friendly Community, the club’s chosen charity for 2019. Purbeck Runners Chair and Coach, Paula Lawton-Archer said “The club’s mission is all about being an active member of the local community and we have energetically supported this charity who are tackling such an important issue which touches the lives of so many people, including several of our own members.”

The presentation took place earlier this month at the Swanage Beach Gardens Pavilion ahead of the Wednesday evening club runs (this turned out to be the last of these club meetings for the time being) and there was a big turn out from the members to see Charity Chair and Swanage Mayor, Councillor Mike Bonfield receive the cheque. Mike Bonfield spoke about the vital work the charity does supporting those affected by Dementia and their families. In thanking the club, he said “This is a truly amazing donation and shows yet again how wonderful Swanage is with groups like the Purbeck Runners so keen to support important local causes.”

The Purbeck Runners principle fundraiser was their annual Purbeck 10k race. “It has become a local classic on the racing calendar, being part of the Dorset Road Race League and County Championship and as a result, it is has been an excellent fundraiser for many local charities over the past eight years” said Race Director, Matt Coggins. “I would like to thank all the club volunteers who helped make the event a success and also the many local businesses, including our sponsors Albury & Hall and Ellis Jones, as well as Andy Farrer Photography, Norden Farm, Country Foods, Total Therapy, Leaping Fish and AC Sports Wellness.”
