It’s with great sadness to announce that we are cancelling the Purbeck 10k for the second year running. Whilst I am sure you’ll be disappointed with this news, we are hoping that, with the continued uncertainty that surrounds mass participation events this year, you will understand the decision made by the race committee.
There are several factors that have led to this decision. Of course, the current pandemic means that whilst there are “green shoots” of hope that we will be returning to some level of normality by the summer, there are still many variables that means planning for a road race event becomes extremely difficult. At the present time, we are unable to get the required permissions in place from local land owners, councils and secure the support from race partners in order to organise a safe race. We also need to consider the help from volunteers that is needed and considering their safety in the current climate.
As a result, we’ve decided to cancel the event for 2021.
As you’ll be aware, your entrance to the 2020 event was moved to 2021. We had considered moving entrants to 2022 but this would mean that our charity benefactors for the race would miss out on donations from the race (we are a not for profit race and give around £3,000 to charity each year).
With this in mind we are encouraging entrants to donate their entry fee to our chosen charities, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and Friends of Swanage Hospital. We especially think that in the current pandemic, these charities are all the more worthy of some additional funds.
If you would prefer a refund, this will be possible, however with our original entry partner FullOnSport no longer in operation, this would be issued via cheque. If you would like a refund, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and provide postal address details.
We hope to see you all at races in the future, but until then, keep running and stay safe
Matt & the Race Committee
