Cross Country Running
The club is a member of the Wessex Cross Country League. Our women’s team in the 2023 season won the team title as well as having Izzy Davis outsprinting Anna Philps to win the individual title with both women also being first and second in the County Championship and gaining selection to represent Dorset in the prestigious Inter Counties Cross Country Championship. Liz Goldsack was the third member of the winning team and also won the FV50 title. The men, after a close fought battle finished second team with Ali Zanconato finishing 4th overall ahead of Julian Critchlow in 5th and first MV60.
In the Wessex League there are usually 3 races, normally on Sundays with the women running at 12:30 and the men at 13:30. The County Championship is normally the 2nd race at the end of October and is also included in the club’s individual championship series. There is also the South West Area Championship, normally 2nd Sunday in January and the National Championships which are generally around the end of February.
As a member of the league the league races are free to all paid-up club members. We would love all our members to have a go as the competition is very much team based and every runner counts regardless of ability. It is also a great bonding event with the courses normally allowing for full support from team mates around the courses. Many people say they haven’t done cross country since school. I can promise these events are great fun and you will feel truly uplifted by the team support and bonding and the satisfaction of a job well done.
